BRIAN MCGINN SENSATIONAL TRY FROM 1962The Saints Heritage Society has unearthed a rare video clip which will prove of great interest to supporters, especially those of a certain vintage.
The clip can be found by following the link to the match page.
This short clip shows a vital try scored by the talented Saints’ centre Brian McGinn. The match was the home Third Round Challenge Cup Tie against Swinton on the 11th of March, 1961. Of course this was an important milestone on the path to the 1961 Challenge Cup Final victory over Wigan which included the great length of the field Vollenhoven try.
In the days of unlimited tackles the build up demonstrates the cavalier off-loading style of St Helens team in that era. Players involved in the set up include Murphy, Karalius, Rhodes, Large and Fred Leyland. The try itself featured the power and off load of Jimmy Measures and the evasive finishing of Brian McGinn.
