Biography of James Thompson

HERITAGE NO : 168
James Thompson played three matches for the first team in March and April 1908. He was a rugged forward and wore three different jersey numbers in his matches against Oldham, Broughton Rangers and Barrow. The Saints lost the first two matches of his first team career but were victorious in his final game against Barrow. It must be assumed that James played regularly for the Saints' reserve team. He was transferred to Leigh to further his rugby career.

James lived a long time in Stanhope Street, St. Helens and worked initially s a labourer. Later he found employment as a plate glass layer. In 1939 James was living in Argyle St in St. Helens along with his wife Mary and two daughters. James died in St. Helens in October 1976 at the age of 87. We would be most grateful if anyone provide any further playing or personal details and or a n image of James.
