Walter Lomax was a scrum half who played two games for the Saints on consecutive weekends in 1901. These games resulted in two losses to Barrow and Leigh. He later became landlord of the Royal Oak Hotel in Higher Parr Street, St Helens and was a well known local crown green bowler. Walter died in St Helens in 1920 at the age of 48.

Born in St. Helens in 1872, Walter lived in West Street, Toll Bar in 1901 and, at 29 years of age, was a plate glass smoother. Ten years later, together with wife Ann [Briers] he was a ‘beer house keeper’ in Higher Parr Street. Walter was still a publican when he died on 15th November 1920, at the Clarendon Hotel in College Street. He left just over £1,000 to his wife, so he must have run a great pub to become such a successful businessman. By SHS
