Kenneth Kendall by SHS
When the Saints went to Huddersfield just before Christmas in 1944, they did so with a team hastily collected from who was available at the time. Stan Powell was not available in the centre and so the visitors borrowed a player from Huddersfield, by the name of Kendall. Although the Saints lost 8-20 to the Fartowners, at least Kendall had something to remember from his experience in the red and white jersey, according to Clericus in the St. Helens Reporter: 'Huddersfield obtained possession at will and indulged in long passing across the field. This is where [Stan] Powell was missed. Kendall had not the speed to try for the interception and he was playing out of position. He is an out-half and when played there in the second half did much better and scored a smart try'.
He went on to play 11 matches for Huddersfield in that season, mostly from the stand off position, netting two tries in the process.Kendall played another seven matches the following season at Fartown.
In January1946, Kendall was transferred to Castleford where he played in the threequarters for his new team. At Wheldon Road Kenneth appeared in 13 matches without troubling the scorers. Kenneth died in March 2003, aged 79 and his death was registered in Calderdale.
