HERITAGE NO : 464David Chisnall by Alex Service
We believe that David was signed from local rivals St. Helens Recreation as cover for the threequarters at Knowsley Road. He made his debut as replacement for the injured Izzy Davies in the away fixture at Barrow on 20th March 1937. The Saints went down by 5-34 and Chisnall, who came from Queen Street, went on to make five full appearances for the Saints, scoring two tries. His last match in red and white was against Newcastle, on 24th April. He worked as a Mechanical Engineering Designer and in 1939 he was living in Queen Street, St Helens. He died in his hometown in September 1985, aged 71.
His daughter, Pat, married Saints winger of the mid 1960s Tom Pimblett, who was also a mechanical engineer. Quite a coincidence. David is not related to the other Chisnalls who played for the Saints in the 1960s and 1970s.
