Biography of Peter Atherton
HERITAGE NO : 1017
A former Widnes Tiger at amateur level, Peter made three appearances from the bench for the Saints, together with one as a non-playing substitute. He made his debut against Oldham, when he was the forward substitute. Welshman Mike Carrington wore the number 14 jersey. Peter's non-playing substitute appearance was in the famous 27-26 defeat of the Kiwis in 1989, when the Saints won somewhat against the odds. His last match for the seniors was at Thrum Hall, Halifax, when he was a substitute with winger Jason Roach. Strong and forceful, it is a pity that he did not make more appearances at senior level. Peter also went on loan to Whitehaven for a spell.
Resident in the North East [August 2021], Peter is proud of his Saints' Heritage Number and was presented with a 'named' heritage jersey by former team-mate Mike Riley at a single wicket competition involving former Saints' players at Prescot and Odyssey CC on 1st August 2021.
